“Topical Issues of International Nuclear Law” symposium took place in the framework of Atomexpo 2009 May 27 2009

Representatives of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, a number of leading nuclear companies (Techsnabexport, Atomstroyexport, Energoatom Concern), Nuclear Insurance Broker, the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow State University discussed the following issues: civil liability for nuclear damage, legislation on treatment of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, nuclear and radiation safety and nonproliferation of nuclear materials and development trends of the international and national law regulating international trade in nuclear materials, equipment and technologies, particularly, formation of the safety stock of enriched uranium for international needs or rules for transfer and operation of floating nuclear power plants. A. I. Yorysh for the Institute of State and Law of RAS reported on the key principles of the international legislative basis in the field of civil liability for nuclear damage, A. S. Dedusenko, Chief Expert of International Department, JSC Atomstroyexport, — on international legal, regional national contractual regimes of liability for nuclear damage, I. V. Gusakov-Stanyukovich, Head of Division, INF and RW Management Systems, SC Rosatom, on development of the Russian legislation on nuclear and radiation safety. main provisions of the draft law «on the irradiated nuclear fuel management.


The moderator of the symposium, Director, Department of International Cooperation, SC Rosatom, M. N. Lysenko said that each report revealed lots of problems requiring urgent resolution. „We have revealed the most urgent problems. This symposium will take place each year in the framework of Atomexpo. Rosatom is planning to involve in the elimination of the “gray spots“ specialists of the National Nuclear University, which is being formed by the two biggest universities of the country — Moscow State University and Moscow State Institute of International Relations."
